Türkiye is awaiting a draft sales contract and training programme from Qatar as negotiations continue over the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon for the Turkish Air Force, the Ministry of National Defence said on 22 October.
The ministry said that meetings were held in August and September that addressed the scope of the aircraft and munitions to be procured, training for pilots and maintenance personnel, and the technical and logistical support required to operate and sustain the aircraft.
Qatar is expected to prepare and send Türkiye a draft sales contract and training programme. The ministry did not disclose the number of aircraft under consideration, their delivery schedule or the proposed value of the procurement.
The announcement was made one day after the signing of the Bedir Defence Agreement between Türkiye, Qatar, Indonesia and Pakistan.
Türkiye is aiming to strengthen its combat-aircraft fleet by purchasing Qatari Eurofighter planes while awaiting deliveries of new-build aircraft from the United Kingdom.
Ankara and London signed a contract in October 2025 for 20 new-build Eurofighter Typhoons. The agreement followed a preliminary arrangement in July 2025 and negotiations involving the European consortium’s partner nations. The aircraft are intended to bolster Turkish air power, with the first deliveries expected from 2030. Türkiye has also considered the possibility of buying additional Eurofighters from Oman; however, this option seems to be on ice at the moment.
Qatar ordered 24 Eurofighter Typhoons from BAE Systems under a contract that included training and support. Deliveries began in 2022. The aircraft are generally identified as Tranche 3A variants. The Tranche 3A variant came with the Captor-M mechanically scanned array radar, while later 3As that were made for export to Kuwait and Qatar were equipped with Captor-E Mk0 AESA radar.
