Otokar Tulpar With HitFact MkII Turret

The Turkish armored vehicle producer, Otokar, is showcasing the Tulpar Medium Tank equipped with the Leonardo HITFACT Mk II 120mm turret at the World Defence Show 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Designed as a versatile platform, the Tulpar can accommodate various configurations including a light tank, infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier, reconnaissance vehicle, command and control vehicle, air defense, ambulance, repair and recovery vehicle, mortar vehicle, and other variants.

The Tulpar boasts a range of variants from 28,000 kg to 45,000 kg, meeting diverse global requirements. Its hull measures 7,200mm long and 3,450mm wide, with a height of 2,100mm (excluding the turret) and a ground clearance of 4,500mm.

Powered by a turbocharged diesel engine and automatic transmission, the Tulpar delivers 700 to 1100 hp, offering a range exceeding 500 kilometers and speeds over 70 km/h. It can conquer 40% side slopes, 60% gradients, 2.6-meter trenches, 1-meter vertical obstacles and 1.5-meter fording death without preparation.

With exceptional mobility, the Tulpar operates effectively across varied combat environments, from urban areas and light bridges to woodlands and soft surfaces unsuitable for heavy main battle tanks.
Structurally tested and qualified against landmine attacks and ballistic threats as per NATO STANAG 4569, the Tulpar ensures occupant survivability.

The versatile Hitfact Mk II turret, adaptable to light-wheeled vehicles and medium tanks, enhances firepower equivalent to a main battle tank while maintaining mobility and accuracy. The turret accommodates a crew of 2 or 3 and features an automatic ammunition loading system as per user requirements.

In the showcased version at WDS, the vehicle boasts a 120/45mm smoothbore low-recoil gun as the main armament and a Hitrole RWS with a 7.62mm machine gun as secondary armament, compatible with standard NATO ammunition according to STANAG 4385 and STANAG 4458.

When questioned about the vehicle’s development, Otokar clarified that the Tulpar with the Leonardo HITFACT Mk II 120mm turret is a new variant, not tied to a specific project. Developed to meet the rising demand for fire support vehicles or mid-class tanks in certain countries, this product combines Tulpar’s mobility and protection with Hitfact’s firepower, offering a robust solution for forces with such requirements.
