>The defence ministers of NATO countries are meeting in Budapest. One of the important result of this meeting is that NATO has finally decided to send a naval task group to Gulf of Aden in order to combat piracy.
NATO officials said the seven frigates from a group that were to have taken part in an exercise in the Suez Canal region would arrive off the Somali coast within two weeks in response to a request from the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP).
At the moment much is left to be assumed. If Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2) is going to south, then the Turkish warship F-496 TCG Gökova will be a part of it, as well.
Turkish Navy usually sends a small detachment of naval special forces group and a helicopter on board, to regular NATO Missions.
SNMG-2 is currently taking part in NATO’s Noble Midas 2008 exercise that ends today.
