Romanian Warship Embarks On NATO Mission

On October 31, the frigate  ROS Regele Ferdinand departed from the military port of Constanta to participate in NATO’s Sea Guardian operation in the Mediterranean Sea, running until December 13. The ship passed through Istanbul on 1st November 2024 in the afternoon.

This operation, led by NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), aims to deter illegal activities and enhance maritime security on the southern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.

According to the press release by the Romanian Naval Forces, by joining Sea Guardian, the Romanian Naval Forces reaffirm their commitment to collective maritime security and counter-terrorism efforts in the Mediterranean. This marks Romania’s sixth participation in missions under NATO’s Sea Guardian initiative, launched at the Warsaw Summit in July 2016 to bolster maritime traffic safety.

During the mission, the ROS Regele Ferdinand will make port calls in Greece and Italy, engaging in naval diplomacy and meeting with local civil and military officials. The frigate, commanded by Commander Florian Tudoraşcu, carries a crew of 240 sailors.
