TCG Alemdar Heads to Norway for NATO Submarine Rescue Exercise Dynamic Monarc 2024

TCG Alemdar, the submarine rescue ship of the Turkish Navy set sail to Norway on 19 August 2024. The ship will take part in the NATO submarine escape and rescue exercise Dynamic Monarc 2024.

TCG Alemdar was designed from the keel as a submarine rescue ship for Turkish Navy. She will be able to provide life support to the stranded crew of a distressed submarine up to 600 meters.

I was on board with her and wrote about her capabilities extensively during the Kurtaran 2019 submarine rescue exercise.

The exercise was designed by ISMERLO in cooperation with host nations and participating units to improve interoperability as well as share submarine escape and rescue (SMER)- related knowledge. The Dynamic Monarc 2024 will be conducted from 9 to 20 Sep 2024 in Norway, off the coast of Kristiansand. The aim is to train and demonstrate that NATO, in participation with other submarine operating nations, can cooperate in life-saving operations from a distressed submarine, including all medical aspects involved in a submarine disaster. In addition, the exercise is planned to enhance international cooperation, foster worldwide SMER interoperability, and advertise SMER capabilities to non-NATO nations. The primary training audience for this exercise includes nations who operate submarines as well as their rescue systems.
