>August 30 is a national holiday in Turkey to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence in 1922.The Battle of Dumlupınar was fought from 26 August to 30 August 1922.
As a custom Turkish warships visited Istanbul to take part in the commemorations. This year two Meko 200 class frigates TCG Yavuz and TCG Yıldırım fulfilled this duty.
This year the celebrations had a more somber tone compared to last years big naval parade.
