Sail boats or sail ships are not allowed to use their sails when they pass through the Bosphorus. The reason is simple. Motor vessels are expected to give way to vessels under sail. Navigating through the Bosphorus, where a ship has to change its course three times, at least 90 degrees, where powerful currents add or take 1,5 to 2 knots to the speed of the vessel is difficult and dangerous. Adding to this chaos sailing boats zigzagging among large merchant ships is an invitation to a disaster.
But then again on certain few days sail boats are allowed to use their sails in Bosphorus. Today was such a day. The crews of several sail boats and yachts have put all the efforts to win the 7th Bosphorus Cup. The colors of the sails added a nice touch to the warm and cozy day.
It was just a perfect day.
