Today a potentially dangerous accident happened in Bosporus. Thankfully there was no loss of life. St Vincent Grenadines flagged Ro-Ro ship Ella J run aground in Bosphorus just few meters away from residences. According to online newspapers and portals the rudders of the ship did not functioned at the bend and she drifted to the shore. It is almost a miracle that the ship did not crushed the residences at the shore.
Approximately 150 ships pass through Turkish Straits on a daily basis. 3 million barrels of petroleum products are carried with 30 tankers through Bosporus, that bisects Istanbul where 12 million people are living, each day.
