The news is on the web since last week. But I am cautious about early reports and rumors about diverted pirates attacks. Some of the turn out the be a false positives.
But this time it is true. On 14th March 2009, pirates approached and Vietnamese cargo vessel and fired upon the ship in order to stop her. Turkish frigate F-491 TCG Giresun dispatched two of her AB-212 ASW helicopters to the attacked vessel.
According to ONI Worldwide Threat to Shipping Report, the men in the two skiffs fled the scene after the warships’ arrival, but no arrests were made. The vessel escaped but reported 40-45 shots around the bridge with minimal damage. No injuries to the crew were reported.
